a nexus for the exploration and sharing of the art of Contact Improvisation in the social experiment of radical participation and permission that is Black Rock City.

For the past four years,

Contact Camp has been both a group project for sharing Contact Improvisation on the playa and a place to stay and share community for Contact Improvisers.

This past year (2008), Contact Camp was home to 50+ contactors from around the world and hosted two classes a day in Contact Improvisation Fundamentals plus special topic contact classes, classes in other body-studies, and the daily Contact Jam at Center Camp … a unique Contact Jam that takes place in the midst of the hustle and bustle of an active town center.

Vision … This is a group project. Those of us already on board for organization team feel pretty keen on maintaining some of the core visions that started contact camp … daily jams at center camp, twice daily contact fundamentals classes, special jams.

Latest updates 07/31/2009:

  • Even if you’ve already sent in your money, please register for both the main event
and at least one of the three options for helping with either camp:
    setup camp
    breakdown
    or neither.
Please ask any friends who will be joining you to do the same, or do it for
them. The links to register are all at http://groupus.campcontact.org.
Please check to see if you’re actually registered for both the main event
and the other setup event(s). Prices go up after this weekend for the main
event. We’ll need to order early arrival passes and food soon and we rely
on these numbers to get these items.
  • We still haven’t received early arrival passes, I’ll be sending them
out as soon as I get them. I don’t expect to get them until August 15th or
so. Because we are camping with a village, We may be short on passes this
year, so if anyone has contacts with other theme camps and can get in early
using one of those passes, please arrange to do that.
  • We will be doing camp building both Saturday and Sunday prior to the event. We’ve got 2
big domes, three 60′ parachutes, 2 or 3 small domes to set up, as well as
the kitchen and common spaces. While we could probably get the camp set up
in one day, I’d rather not risk it and would like to get started on Saturday
morning. We will take a lot of time to load our stuff from the storage unit
    to the truck and off.
  • I’d like to focus a little more on hospitality this year..I’d like to
be able to welcome our playa friends into the common space.
  • I’ll be arriving on Friday night before the event, there will be room
for some to arrive Friday, but most should plan on arriving Friday after
midnight or early Saturday, however if you can’t make it until Saturday
night or Sunday for setup that is fine too. I don’t think I can get passes
    for earlier than Friday.
  • I’ve sent out invites to the WetPaint site.
This is the site that the Core Organizing Team will use to coordinate the
camp, you’re welcome to join and see what we’re up to and offer up
resources/help. In particular, we’re looking for a gently used refrigerator
in the Bay area. We’ll have a truck going from Oakland to the event that
will take our food and other supplies. You may be able to get some of your
gear/bikes transported with this truck. Joshua will be doing this.
  • If there is interest in making a burn barrel from anyone in the Bay
Area, our Village, Nectar Village is
coordinating some effort for this. We’ll have firewood provided as a part
of village membership. Let me know and I’ll put you in touch with Soup.
  • Monday night August 3rd and Tuesday Night August 11 at 10pm eastern 7pm
Pacific we’ll have a conference call for the Burning Man for beginners telecon. Call in
details will be sent out this weekend on the main list. All are welcome to join in, even if
you’ve been to burning man before just to get to know your campmates and
    build community pre-event.

If you are interested in camping with our camp, please review the rest of this website, and review the commitments we request of our camp members.

Any thoughts, please forward them to Darrell at campcontact@campcontact.org
